Last year, I had the opportunity to visit Costa Rica with my high school on a service trip. We visited an orphanage, a school, an animal rescue center, a volcano and the beach. We also went zip-lining, planted trees, got to see the waterfalls and went on a crocodile boat tour. This trip taught me about the importance of travel and how traveling can help us gain more knowledge about the world around us.
We stayed at Hotel Terraza Del Pacifico located in front of Playa Hermosa in Jaco, Puntarenas. We weren’t allowed to swim in the water due to the waves, but we took advantage of the beautiful scenery and got some nice pictures. We then went in the pool at the hotel. Afterwards, we enjoyed a nice meal. Going to the beach was relaxing after a long day of hard work.
For two days, we visited the Asociación Obras del Espíritu Santo orphanage. When we got there, each child had a sign with our name on it to welcome us. We got to meet most of the children and formed connections with them. The orphanage also had a soup kitchen downstairs where some of us handed food out to the less fortunate. We got to meet the priest who was in charge of the orphange and had a big celebration for his birthday. We also bought groceries and supplies at their local store for the children. We played games with the children such as tag and dancing games. They were very sweet and adorable and I was truly sad to leave them on the last day. Visiting the orphanage made me realize how lucky I am and to appreciate the little things in life.
We visited Proyecto Asis an Animal Rescue Center in Costa Rica. We got to see different types of birds and monkeys and we also saw Peccaries and Coatis. We learned how to make food for the animals and we were then able to feed it to them. We had a tour guide who was very friendly and it was overall an amazing visit.
